'Christ' mas or 'Stress' mas?

The Christian community traditionally remembers Jesus's birth as the true meaning of Christmas. Many others have said  that Christmas represents family, friends and even remembering the importance of giving to others.

But have any of us found a way to avoid the stress?! Everywhere we turn, we are reminded that we have to plan the menu and get the perfect recipes ready for the traditional tasty meals we remember eating every Chirstmas. Our parents did it so shouldn't we?

And what about all those presents we need to buy? How can we get something for her...and not him?!

And the tree, lights, decorations, carols? I admit that being in a setting that has all those wonderful elements nicely in place is great! But who is going to organise it?

Let's get back to basics, shall we? This is what a stress free Christmas holiday can look like...

  1. Make your gifts. Bake, craft or sew something special for those you love. Half of the joy is in the process. The other half is giving it.
  2. Potluck. Invite your family and friends to contribute some of their favourite dishes to the feast. Everybody gets to bless someone with their tasty dish.
  3. Invite your children to create unique decorations and put up the tree with you as a part of an enjoyable family tradition.
  4. Read the Christmas story from the bible together.
  5. Sing carols together and if anyone can play an instrument...ask them to play along with you.

Try out these alternative ways of spending your holidays and you may actually look forward to the next one!!

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Isaiah 9:6

our brief sojourn

Time does fly doesn't it? Do you have plans? Do you expect to fulfill them?

Wouldn't  it be great if we knew exactly what our future would be? ...or would it?

How much do you trust God? Will you believe that all His plans for you are for good?

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."-Jeremiah 29:11

We can choose today to approach the rest of our lives like an adventure - like Alice in Wonderland did - always knowing that wonderful surprises are in store, not to mention being filled with the power of the Almighty Holy Spirit as our secret weapon!!!

Bon Voyage!

that 'thing' called forgiveness

Have you ever been really hurt by someone?..when you can feel the hurt deep down in your soul!?

Well, I have...and at times like those forgiveness seems like the most absurd response that anyone could have suggested! That is when I remember the scripture about God's ways being higher than ours -

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”-Isaiah 55:8,9

I have to say that I also know what it feels like to be so determined not to forgive someone for so long that I become so bitter (and emotionally drained) that I can almost taste it in my mouth...and it's not a nice taste.

Somehow, everytime I obey God's Word and forgive - even though they don't deserve it - I feel free, and light and like I can live again. You know what ?! God will deal with them for His own way!

I remember when

I remember when I would spend a lot of time trying to come up with the perfect thing
to do at the perfect time so that I could be happy. Or the perfect place to go, thing
to buy, food to eat...whatever it took. For a while it was enough and the 'formula' for
true happiness seemed to be foolproof. Boy was I in for a surprise! Jesus taught me
the correct 'formula', and every time I apply it in the tests of my life I am a winner!

"You make known to me the path of life; in Your presence there is fullness of joy;

at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore". Psalm16:11
